I never had a situation where I needed to know canine first aid until about a month after graduating from the DOGSAFE courses. It was a late evening and we were playing with our two dogs when all of a sudden, there was an ear piercing squeal from Petra, our Boston Terrier. It turned out that she had snagged and tore her dew claw. Thanks to my DOGSAFE training, my wife and I remained calm, assessed the situation and grabbed our DOGSAFE canine first aid. We were able to stop the bleeding, calm Petra down and properly clean and bandage Petra’s paw.
By the next morning Petra was back to her regular self trying to make us play fetch with her even though she was only on three legs.
The saying “it’s better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it” is something that all pet owners should consider. I am sure glad I had the DOGSAFE training. Thanks Michelle.
